I was walking past the community garden
and a crocus spoke to me
"Beautiful day huh?"
I smiled and crossed
through the park where tulips
in a row opened their bell heads
and sang "Morning morning morning"
at the supermarket daisies
giggled as I dragged my green cart
past their pots, down to fruits and vegetables
where salad greens grinned
One bright kale joked
"Someone's in a good mood"
and the peas echoed
"good good good"
and the birds echoed
in the parking lot
"good good good"
and the clouds
on their blue plate
and the cherry blossoms
readying themselves for flight
and the swaying alders
and the wind
smelling of river:
good good good
Tomorrow is April first and April is National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo). About a dozen poets gather in April on The Waters Poetry Workshop and attempt to write a poem a day for 30 days. I think I managed it once. But I’m usually good for a few weeks! This poem, Good, was written during April in 2013 NaPoWriMo. I love how it expresses the happiness I felt that spring in Squamish, BC.
If you’re a poet and would like to try your hand at writing a poem a day, even if just for a week, you are welcome to join us on the Waters! “No critique” is the guideline, so come on by and dip your toes in.
It’s a Tapatalk platform so you’ll need a Tapatalk account first. Then find us here

I think joy is a really difficult thing to communicate in poetry. The act of writing can take away from the spontaneity of joy. But your poem succeeds. Congratulations!
So much rejoicing all around...!
